This is what happens when you rent your $700,000 Denver Square to a bunch of college kids.

This hurts! My partner and I were the previous owners of this once magnificent home. We sold it in July of 2002. We purchased the home in 1993 and added the 3 car garage, finished the third floor “Great Room” and added the oak staircase to the third floor. This home was our love project, and to see it in this condition is painful. The home was built in 1894 for Colorado Supreme Court Judge John Campbell and his wife Harriett Parker. They lived in the home until their deaths. The home then was used as a boarding home during WWII, and later became a nursing home. While we owned this home, we had it on several home tours and met previous residents on the home. They told us many stories of what life was like decades before at 1401 Gilpin. When we sold the home, we left portraits of John & Harriett behind for the new owners. I’m sure they are gone now.
The first photo is of one of the second floor bathrooms. The pink color was my partner’s idea. The next photo is of the formal living room. The mantel is original to the house, but the light fixture is a reproduction. The window treatments were from Joslins. The last photo is of the kitchen. Missing is the dishwasher and a six burner Viking gas stove. The main center section of the wooden/glass wall cabinet on the right is also original to the house. We have so many great memories regarding “Gilpin”. It was a great home.

We just purchase this last year, and are working on renovations (and working, and working....). Great to hear some of its history!
